At the Vincent-Ruz Lab we are dedicated to transforming chemistry education through equity, justice, and evidence-based innovation. As part of a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), our mission is deeply rooted in supporting Latine students and addressing the educational disparities in STEM.

Mission

Establishing a strong and ethical research program in Chemistry Education to serve others by creating an environment where everyone can become their authentic scientific selves.

Vision

Making chemistry conducive, equitable and inclusive for every individual.

Values

Our lab values are embodied in the acronym RAICES, which reflects our guiding principles:

  • Reciprocidad (Reciprocity): Recognizes the interdependence between our lab and our community, emphasizing the importance of fostering research that addresses community needs and avoids extractive practices.
  • Accesibilidad (Accessibility): Ensures chemistry is accessible to everyone, particularly to communities historically excluded due to language, race, disability, gender, or other identities.
  • Inclusividad (Inclusivity): Embraces diverse perspectives and fosters an environment where individuals can thrive as their authentic scientific selves.
  • Comunidad (Community): Reflects our commitment to serving and uplifting the community of students that embody the borderlands.
  • Equidad (Equity): Strives for fairness and justice in all aspects of our work.
  • Solidaridad (Solidarity): Represents unity and a shared purpose in advancing liberation for all.

These values guide our mission to create meaningful and transformative change.
